This is poem stands out from the rest - it has a personal touch and a nostalgic edge.
Time: Six-thirty pm.
Day: Every single day
I'm talking about a time of my life, when our evening chaa sessions happened to be the most fun, frolic, and fulfilling part of the day. Every single evening, without fail, our sunset adventure weaved its own tale. My friends and I never skipped a day - after all, how could we? We had so much to say! But when the pandemic began, things took a turn. An untameable virus, which we couldn't befriend, brought our Six-thirty pm adventure to an abrupt end. But the memories we made are cherished till date - joyous and delightful - they're impossible to forget.
So it is through this piece of poetry that I look back on that part of my (our) life, as I try to tell our evening tales to the world and his wife.
Six-Thirty In The Evening
Six-thirty in the evening, I watch the sun go down
As darkness descends, but the sky, still blurry brown
For things are yet to start, and is all set to begin
As I patiently wait for my cell phone to ring
“I’m ready, let’s go, can’t wait no more”
“For I’ve return home by eight or before”
“Sure” said I, “Give me a minute or two”
As I readied myself, without further ado
Out we go, weather no bar
Discussing, talking, while walking afar
“What would we have? The usual thing?”
“Tea and roll” said I, “Or maybe an ice-cream”
Lost in our stories, laughing at our jokes
Talking about people, or very rarely, about sports
“Hey! Have you seen her most recent dance?”
“No, I’ve blocked her, so I don’t have the chance”
We reluctantly stop, for Sanjay Da’s tea
Our first choice very much remains Tuki-Taki
This is a quick halt, on our way to the park
Our first cup of tea, out in the dark
With a packet of Doritos, Kurkure, and Lay's
We take our seats at the familiar old place
“I’m hungry, let’s eat – let’s have papri-chaat”
“Why not? Of course” I love this part
We’ve witnessed the crazy amidst our chats
Like a herd of cows and innumerable bats
And a creepy little dog, in the middle of the park
Who kept staring at us, but didn’t for once, bark
Some thrilling metro rides to City Centre!
And Sector V too – Quite an adventure!
And the never-ending phase, at the old marketplace
One shop to another, what a time waste!
Someone needs to tell her, we’re all getting late
“Please skip this part, stop making us wait”
“Come on let’s have another cup of tea”
“No chance” I said “It’s already seven-thirty”
There’s no time left for us to talk, wander, and roam
The evening’s done and we must get back home
A timeless evening, delightfully spent
Talking, laughing, joking – by a group of close friends
Now we’re back, back at our home
A virus is raging! No chance for us to roam
But there will be a day when this pandemic is gone
And our sunset adventures will again be switch on!
